Sparring Program

Today, many people are interested in the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) craze. It has brought an excitement to martial arts that comes close to "all out" combat. Governed by rules, however, it still is a sport. Like all sports, it puts tremendous demands on an individual for training to excel in fighting ability and physical conditioning.

Most traditional martial arts schools do not allow any students to participate in sparring others, so many students never get to "see what they can do". Most students who take traditional martial arts either do not have the time to invest or the interest to compete on a regular basis. Our students are welcome to participate in various tournaments. However, we take pride in what we call our "Friendship Exchange" program. This program is where we seek out other schools from the same or different martial art styles to have a sparring session with. The sparring is continuous and full contact. Although not part of our formal curriculum, this forum allows the student and Sifu to work together to evaluate their skills in an unknown environment against an unknown opponent.

Of course "real" fighting on the street is very different. But this sparring gives our students the "experience" they want to look for answers in the Ving Tsun Kung Fu system. Our approach is not winning or losing these matches, but to extract the learning experience from them.

We invite other schools to contact us should they have, or know of, a group of students interested in a "Friendship Exchange".
