VING TSUN KUNG FU - ADULT(Ages 16 and up) Training Hours:
* - denotes classes/training times run by Senior students. Ving Tsun Kung Fu is a Chinese martial arts system that does not require many years of study before one can begin using what they have learned effectively. Depending on certain circumstances, one can utilize effective techniques within 3 to 6 months. Your initial training in Ving Tsun Kung Fu will require trusting the system and learning the fundamental techniques and principles, the sequences of the forms, and practicing a series of cooperative two (2) person exercises. As you progress, you will be encouraged to explore on your own and interpret the ideas and principles in how they relate to you in order for you to develop "your own Kung Fu". Interview: All interested parties must contact the school and schedule an appointment to meet with Sifu. Observance of classes only is not permitted. This is in order to properly discuss your goals for learning Kung Fu and give you a complete view of your process. Your decision to join should be based upon whether what is explained to you is in agreement with your goals and expectations from martial arts training. We will mutually come to a decision if joining our Kung Fu family is the right choice for you. Siu Nim Tao ModuleStudents will learn Ving Tsun's first form, Siu Nim Tao which translated means "little idea or beginning". Students will learn the Ving Tsun punch and horse. They will continue to build understanding of Ving Tsun principles through training two person sets: Pak Sao, Pak Dar, Lap Sao, and Don Chi Sao (Single Sticking Hand). Chum Kiu Module After completion of the Siu Nim Tao module, students are eligible to learn Ving Tsun's second form, Chum Kiu, which translated means "seeking the bridge". Students will learn the aspects of balance in movement and kicks in the Ving Tsun system. They will continue to build understanding of Ving Tsun principles and martial attributes through intense training of Chi Sao. Students will also train Chi Gerk and develop their horse. Bil Je (Advanced/Instructor Level) After completion of Chum Kiu, the student is eligible for learning the advanced form, Bil Je which translates to "thrusting fingers". This form teaches to return to the center as quickly as possibly. This is the advanced level where one has the knowledge to teach. At this stage you become eligible to start your Muk Yan Jong (Wooden Man Dummy) training. You continue to heighten your skills in Chi Sao training in areas such as blind-fold, long arm, and high energy Chi Sao. During this level, students are eligable for being formal instructors in the school by taking an instructor test. Muk Yan Jong (Wooden Man Dummy) At this level, students continue to heighten their Chi Sao and learns the 8 sections of the Wooden Man Dummy set. Luk Dim Poon Kwan (6 1/2 Point Pole) The Luk Dim Poon Kwan (6 ½ point pole) is the long range weapon of the Ving Tsun system. Measuring 8 or 9 feet in length, the pole is used to develop explosive power in the Ving Tsun punch. The student will have trained for at least 6 months in the low horse "Battle Punching" exercise Chin Choi prior to learning the form. Bot Chom Doh (8 Direction Slashing Knives) The Bot Chom Doh (8 Direction Slashing Knives) is the short range weapon of the Ving Tsun system, giving symmetry to the Luk Dim Poon Kwan. Traditionally, this form is given to the student who has demonstrated high levels of service to the school, Ving Tsun and the Kung Fu family as a gift from the Sifu. The student has now completed their formal training of the system. Sparring Team - Optional** For students who are interested in testing their physical skills, our school presents our "Friendship Exchange Sparring" program. Periodically, we seek out other schools/groups from the same or different styles, to have friendly matches with their students who also wish to spar outside the typical point/tournament sparring arena. These are presented NOT as school vs.school or Martial Art vs.Martial Art, but as an experience for those individuals seeking this in their martial arts goals. Not part of our traditional curriculum, students become eligible to participate in these matches upon reaching the Chum Kiu level. More information on Sparring here. Uniform One can generally expect to complete our Ving Tsun Kung Fu program in 2 to 3 years. However, the above program is dependent upon student attendance, understanding and progress subject to the discretion of the Sifu. In addition to the above mentioned Ving Tsun Kung Fu training sets, you will be exposed to methods from other styles. In addition to floor time and practicing your forms, recommended videos, books, and your student handbook will supplement your training. Herbs, vitamins and Nutrition/Fitness programs are also available. A hobby or a way of life? Although a simple system by content, Ving Tsun Kung Fu takes many years to achieve mastery of the details. Your Ving Tsun training should evolve towards an understanding of yourself and real life. The eventual goal of Kung Fu training is to develop inner peace and "good" character. |
